How about using a large arc light then combining it with one of these to get a smaller arc. Would make the box a bit longer but has the advantage of a smaller point light source, you could also black out all the area around it to prevent excess heat transfer to the LCD.
Could it also be used with a pre-condenser lens....
Any thoughts?

On this link check out these. How about putting a few together with this at the end
List of companies making these
Also how about this as a reflector system?

Cool video of this reflector working, if we added one of those fiber optic tapers at the top, could gather alot of light!

True some of the fiber optics are fairly dear but others are around $30-60. It depends on the size.
Moreover, you could pick up the reflector for $30 as well.
If you can double or triple your lumens output it might just be worth it...
Does anyone think it can work (reflector and/or fiber optic)? |

That's a good point, but the only heat that "should" affect it is convectional heat (which can be removed via sufficient airflow)..
Radiated heat will in theory be reflected by the mirrored surfaces.
With a good air-cooling source It could be kept cool enough to prevent it from melting. |

lots of nice idea's in here, and alot of good info too!
i'v been thinking and i think the problem is heat?
because from what i'v read the condenser lense can crack
if there is too much heat or too close to the bulb( and then
crack after about a hour of use?)
so from using this lense thing to make the arc length smaller
wouldnt it crack too?
can anyone post a pic of a design for the light box? PLEASE |

| i think he/she is hoping on a good cooling system to help out and did you read the thread on keeping the condenser cool that might solve the problem. i thought of it for a 400w mh and i think he wants to use a 250w mh so i think it would help out a lot. need to her more from the vets of diy pro's. |

Good find on the surplus shed link cjdbm
I'm a he by the way lol
It does seem the use of the fibe optic steup elininates a 3d light source, That concave surface on the above link combined with another condender tapered fiberoptic and might trap even more light...

| what about that led array allan was working on for the cube 1x1 400 lumens, that with those fiber opics, 1.8 lcd, and this lens http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/l3489.html would make for a very, very small projector. maybe the size of a small tissue box. |

| if you could get the led array round and have everything installed in a small tube and it would be a projection tube a little bit larger than a paper towel roll but a bit shorter. |
