SV-11 Projector Instructions
Step 2: LCD, Lens, and Fan Holes

Note: This step has already been done for you if you purchased the SV-11 enclosure from DPC.

The front, back, and LCD tray panels will need to be cut to accept the lens, fans, and LCD panel. This can most easily be accomplished with a reciprocating saw, but you can also use a small craft hand saw or even a drill with a hole-cutting bit attached (these are available for about $5 at most tool and hardware stores).

Projection Lens Mount (Front MDF Panel)
The DPC varifocal projection lens should be mounted precisely in the center of the front MDF panel. You can draw a dark dot in the center of the front LCD panel where the lens hole. Then, place the lens on the front panel, centered exactly over the dot (look through the lens to see the dot). Next, trace around the lens carefully with a pencil, and finally cut the hole. Now you can mount the lens in the hole. You can use three very small wood screws through the three mounting holes in the lens, or you can simply take some liquid RTV gasket and apply it like an adhesive around the mounting ring on the lens and press it firmly into the lens hole. You should leave the lens covers on for as much of this process as you can. If you get RTV on the lens, do not attempt to clean it off - that will smear it. Instead, wait 12 hours for it to cure, then simply peal it off of the lens.

Fan Intake and Exhaust Ports (Side MDF Panels)
The two fans should be mounted towards the rear of the projector on either side of the projector. We recommend using 80mm PC-case style fans, but something similar can be substituted. Cut an 80mm (about 3 inches) hole centered vertically on each of the side panels. One one side, the fan can be mounted nearly at the absolute rear of the projector, leaving 1/2 inches clearance for the back MDF panel. The other side must leave about 3-1/2 inches clearance since the lighting ballast will be mounted on the rear panel, limiting space for the fan. It may be a good idea to skip ahead in these instructions to get an idea of where the lighting ballast will be mounted before cutting any of the fan holes.

LCD Light Port (LCD Tray MDF Panel)
To cut the hole for your LCD, you should measure the dimensions of the image part of your LCD, then cut a hole of those same dimensions centered on the LCD tray. Note that you will usually want the long dimensions of the LCD to correspond to the long dimensions of the LCD tray.

Note: If you want a boost in color performance from your projector, or just to make it look nice, now is a good time to paint your projector panels with a flat black paint. Having the inside of your projector flat black will absorb stray rays of light, enhancing clarity of the image and improving image coloring too.
